Nomura Holdings, Inc. today announced a three-year sponsorship with Japanese professional golfer Hideki Matsuyama, effective January 1, 2017.

Mr. Matsuyama is currently a major contender in the United States PGA Tour. He is the first Asian golfer to win a World Golf Championships event and is a three-time PGA Tour winner. In December 2016, he became the first Japanese to win the Hero World Challenge among 18 of the world’s top golfers. As of December 11, 2016, Mr. Matsuyama is ranked sixth in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Mr. Matsuyama continues to break the status quo as he plays on the world stage. Nomura proposed this sponsorship upon seeing that Mr. Matsuyama’s determination and spirit resonate with its long-standing culture of taking on new challenges and driving change for a better future. Going forward, Nomura will support Mr. Matsuyama as he continues to challenge himself to reach new heights around the globe.

“I’m humbled by this opportunity to partner with Nomura for the next three years,” Mr. Matsuyama said. “I jumped out of Japan with the sheer desire to grow on the international stage and it is encouraging to have Nomura, a company that takes on global challenges for the future of finance, at my side. In 2017, I will continue to do all that I can towards achieving the Grand Slam, something that no Japanese has done before.”
